Comic Book Frame

The cheap $1 Dollar Store comic book frame hack, using a document cert frame. It was time to put my comic books on the wall in the nerd cave, displaying them as art, and getting them out of the boxes.

I wanted the comic books to look stylish,  while at the same time being  budget conscious.  In comes the comic book frame hack, finding  this was cheapest way to frame comic books that I could come up with, was using the Dollar Tree – Dollar Store document certificate frames. I found a few other sites that used an IKEA photo frame hacks, the site by Youseph Tanha Dot Com was a big help,  but there are no IKEA stores around here, and my solution only costs a dollar plus some card stock! Ultimate comic book frame wall.

A killer nerd cave with some awesome  framed comic books done on the cheap!

How To Frame Comic Books:  Frame Materials –

    • * $1 Dollar Tree Black Doc Frame (local Store had black) x 75 (mine were wood /glass but they now only carry plastic faces/ plastic frames)
    • Black Card-stock Paper 8 1/2 X 11 $4.99
    • * Finishing Nails
  • * A Comic Book – in regular bag / board

The dollar store frames I used had a very nice glass front, along with a cardboard backer, having two nail hooks for an easy install. I took apart the document frame and hacked it to work as a comic book frame. To stop the white space that was left around the outside edge of the comic book bag/board I added black acid free card stock from hobby-lobby onto the rear side, making it look like black matting in the back of the newly created comic book frame. I left the comics in the bag/board to give the comic some extra protection, not wanting them left alone in just a frame.  ( Tools – measuring tape / bubble level /pencil)

How I did it.

1. Remove / unbend tabs on document frame backer
2. Center comic in bag/board to middle of frame
3. Lightly place black card stock over comic book
4. Reattach document frame backer
5. Hang comic book frame on wall with a finishing nail

6. Enjoy your brilliantly easy work

It was a success! The wall looks amazing! I love that  the frames were so inexpensive! A $1 document fame customized into a very nice looking comic book frame. An easy DIY  project, elegantly showing your  comic books as framed art on the wall  for less than a $1.40 each.

Its a very nice way to display comic books. Its awesome to see people taking long gazes at the wall of  framed comics talking about the ones they remember from their own childhood. I really liked the lay out that my wife suggested. She was a huge help,  mapping the the orientation / placement of nails on the wall. Her suggesting  the staggered method worked very well,  this stops the visual reference points of straight lines, so that  your eyes do not find imperfections as easily.

Update:  Another reader has posted a good tutorial mentioning my site on his own inspiration into the comic book frame wall / comic book framing fun, “How To Frame A Comic Book For Under $2.00
